A lot of people are misguided in the world of supplementation. There are a million and one options out there for each specific person and their wants. Though there is one that I answer people when they want to know what the top fat burning supplement, or even muscle gaining supplement is. If you want to achieve results in body composition then I always say;

Fish Oil.

It is said that in Paleolithic times, caveman had a diet that was rich in Omega 3’s, estimated at 300-400 grams per week. In today’s times with current diets and eating habits 2-4 grams per week is said to be acceptable. Our bodies were meant to be nourished with omega 3’s fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in much larger doses than what is currently recognized.

The main source as which is recommended for omega 3’s is fish oil. It is easy to maintain, regulate dosages, and affirm that there is quality in your product. The problem with fish oil supplements is that many on the market just aren’t good. As I have said in many other articles, supplementation should be bought like parachutes, you never go the cheapest, you but for quality. Many manufactures compromise quality for profits with using fish not high in DHA and EPA, skipping purification processes, and using that are rancid. There is a brand that I do recommend because of their stringent quality control such as Balance Oil by Zinzino, but that is beyond the scope of this article.

Concentrating on shedding fat, losing kilos and thinning your waistline, lets look deeper as how and why you should be using fish oil.

It can come in liquid or capsule form. I recommend to my clients to use liquid at home because it needs to be stored in the fridge, and capsules when on the road and at work. The dosages can vary from 5 to 45 grams per day. There is need for a consultation to determine how much is for you and your goals, so contact us today to start losing fat.

Fish oil increases insulin management. In layman’s terms, it will balance blood sugar and manage the process that is storing fat. It also helps the body in preferring the utilization of fat stores as energy production.

A 3-month study in Australia taken on a group of overweight and obese adults had them lose body fat particularly in the abdominal region with a combination of fish oil supplementation and exercise.

The benefits of fish oil are expansive:

    • Increased insulin sensitivity
    • Fish oils turn on the lipolytic genes (fat burning genes).
    • Fish oils turn off the lipogenic genes (fat storage genes).
    • Increase utilization of fat stores from the adipocytes.
    • Fish oils increase serotonin levels
    • Prevent depression
    • Lower risk of cardiovascular disease
    • Reduce risk of sudden cardiac death by up to 50%
    • Lower risk of inflammatory diseases, i.e. Stroke, heart attack, diabetes and angina.
    • Lower blood pressure
    • Reduce risk of breast and prostate cancer
    • Increase brain health
    • Increase heart health
    • Reduce arthritis

And the list goes on…

There are also many other sources that you should include in your eating habits. These can be included just by making a change in your shopping basket each week.
